I enjoy photographing life.
I have had an affinity for photography, music appreciation, nature, and travel my entire life. At one time photography was one of many hobbies. Around 20 years ago my photographic interest became more intense after completing a course with renowned equine photographer Harold Campton. Soon I was shooting horse shows on weekends. However, as beautiful as horses are, I was interested in photographing much more than horses. So, my range of subject matter and study of all things photographic was and is always expanding.
After spending more than 35 years in the banking and real estate industries, I realized that photography was calling. "Mark Burke Photography" is now my full time vocation. Yes, it was something that I was compelled to do.
I consider myself a generalist and do not apologize for my broad diversity of subject matter. As Forrest Gump's momma said "life is like a box of chocolates... you never know what you are going to get!" I also believe that growth comes from having plenty of pencils in your box and doing all you can to keep them sharp. So for me, the diversity is a good thing.
I continue to study, attend workshops and seminars, keep current with trends and changing technology, and grow as a photographer. As in all things, all we can do is be prepared and then let God provide the vision.
Recently I attended wonderful workshops with world renowned stock photographer Bill Bachmann and with flash photography master Joe McNally. I have a self-assigned photographic project in Newfoundland planned for his summer. This is especially close to my heart, as this is the place from where all of my grandparents immigrated and there is a story to be told.
I live in Clermont, Florida with my lovely wife Peg, contribute regularly to Orlando's Lifestyle Magazine, and belong to the outstanding Orlando Camera Club.
